Demonstrate viability of long-term test flights
The Project will test the long-term impacts of biofuels on aircraft engines through a 6 month trial of a 50/50 jetfuel mix. The fuel will be tested on a dedicated A320 flying the Hamburg-Frankfurt-Hamburg sector.
The A320 will make four round trips each day, with one of the engines flying on a 50/50 mix of biofuels, and the other flying on Jet A-1. Engines will be examined regularly to identify any performance issues with the biofuels.
The plane will be filled up at Hamburg Airport only, using a NesteOil produced HRJ jetfuel once the fuel has been approved. The fuel will be produced primarily for Jatropha, utilising existing technologies and plants.
