Global Agenda Council on Africa 2011
Africa has not fully escaped the effects of the global economic crisis; while many established economies suffered a full recession, sub-Saharan Africa grew by a respectable 2% on average in 2009. The continent will increasingly contribute to global growth over the next decade; the IMF forecasts a minimum of 5% in 2010, 5.5% in 2011 and 6% beyond. The continent’s growth and subsequent geopolitical role in the new global economy will be a product of its nations’ competitive economic development and a commitment by its leaders to foster strong social structures and stable political institutions.
This Council will explore the important drivers contributing to Africa’s future growth and competitiveness. It will identify issues of critical importance that shape both the regional agenda and Africa’s position in the global arena.
