Global Agenda Council on Competitiveness 2011

Countries worldwide have achieved vastly different prosperity levels. Some have grown rapidly, providing rising living standards for their citizens over time, others have achieved economic success more slowly, and yet others have seen their economies stagnate for decades. In this context, it is important to identify the factors that enable economies to achieve sustained growth and long-term prosperity.

Competitiveness is defined as the set of institutions, policies and factors that determine the level of productivity of a country. The level of productivity, in turn, sets the sustainable level of prosperity that can be attained by an economy.

The goal of this Council is to stimulate discussions among business leaders, policy-makers and academia at the national level on how to overcome obstacles to competitiveness.
