Presentation Summary
Soul City was founded to communicate
crucial healthcare information in the face of serious health and development
challenges in South Africa. The question: how do we reach people with
information that will prevent illness before it starts? The answer: through
stories on prime time television and radio. The successful series has grown
into a cross-platform health promotion and social change programme, creating
demand throughout Africa and reaching 45 million people in ten countries. Out of
the success of Soul City, grew Heartlines, using television, radio and print to
tell stories that get South Africa talking, thinking and acting on values.
To leverage the opportunities of
social networking, Heartlines has launched ForGood.co.za,
a social networking site for the purpose of social good. With 23,000 members in
its first month of operation, the developers believe that ForGood.co.za has international
application. Heartlines is exploring opportunities to partner with third
parties to create a business plan that will help ForGood.co.za
achieve its potential.
