Dalia Grybauskaite was elected the President of the Republic of Lithuania in 2009. She is the first President to be re-elected for the second term (in 2014). Prior to becoming the President Dalia Grybauskaite served as the minister of finance (2001-2004). In 2004 she was appointed EU commissioner for financial programming and budget. In November 2005, she was elected Commissioner of the Year for her efforts to reform the EU budget. In 2013 President Dalia Grybauskaite was awarded the prestigious International Charlemagne Prize for Lithuania’s contribution to uniting the European Union and building the economic stability of the whole Europe. President Dalia Grybauskaite is a Doctor of Humane Letters, Honoris Cause at Georgetown University (USA).
