Formerly: led organized labour negotiations on policy in South Africa; involved in drafting accords on economic policy matters & in textile industry in the organization of labour & dealing with social, trade & industrial matters; over 10 years as Member, Governing Body, International Labour Organization, led global negotiations on policy & standard-setting on human resources development, cooperatives, employment relationship, globalization & social justice & global employment agenda; involved with South Africa team at WTO Ministerial Meetings. Since 2009, Minister of Economic Development; portfolio includes responsibility for several development finance institutions including Industrial Development Corporation & two small business funding agencies; heads competition & trade policy regulators; department played a lead role in the formulation of government's New Growth Path, which places the greening of the economy as a key opportunity to create jobs, stimulate entrepreneurship & contribute positively to climate change; led negotiation resulting in a number of social accords, including on skills development, basic education, local procurement & the green economy. Chair, Secretariat, Presidential Infrastructure Coordinating Commission.
