2001, raced single-handedly non-stop around the world in the Vendée Globe when only 24 years old, finishing second. 2005, became the fastest person to circumnavigate the globe single-handedly. While at sea, understood what it means to rely on a finite supply of resources. As a result, works with governments, scientists and across key industry sectors to understand the impact of society's reliance on such finite resources and to find solutions to this economic challenge. Sept. 2010, launched the Ellen MacArthur Foundation.
