Degree in Political Science; PhD in Economics. As Moroccan career Diplomat, specialises in the field of international relations, in particular with regard to Euro-Mediterranean issues. Started working in the banking sector as Representative, Banque Commerciale du Maroc, Milan Italy. Held active roles in the negotiations of free trade agreements with the European Union, the United States, and several Arab and African countries. From 1999, senior positions within the Moroccan Government, including: 1999-2001, Director, Multilateral Cooperation then 2001-03, Director of European Affairs and Ambassador to the Barcelona Euro-Mediterranean Process; 2003-04, Ambassador of Morocco to European Union; 2004-09, Ambassador of Morocco to France. 2009-12, CEO, Moroccan Investment Development Agency, leading its launch and subsequent growth. Since 2012, Secretary-General, Union for the Mediterranean. Recipient of awards: Officier de la Legion d'Honneur and Grand Officier de l'Ordre National du Mérite, France.
