Subsequently elected to chair the Commission for External Relations and Cooperation of the National Assembly. 2003, mandate was renewed. 2003, appointed Minister of Equipment, Mines, Posts and Telecommunications; oversaw the restoration of cooperation with the European Union. Since 2005, President of Togo, prioritizing Togo's economic development, peace and security and regional cooperation.
