Graduate in Commerce. Formerly with the family business, latterly as Head, Ceejay Group. Since 1991, Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha). 2000 and 2006, elected to the Rajya Sabha. Has been member of several Parliamentary Committees, including Finance, Civil Aviation, Environment and Forests, Foreign Affairs. Former: Chairman, Parliamentary Forum; Founder Member, Indo-US Parliamentary Forum. 2004-11, Minister of State for Civil Aviation with Independent Charge. Since 2011, Cabinet Minister, Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises. President, All India Football Federation; Member of the Executive, Asian Football Confederation; Member, Young Presidents' Organization. Recipient, numerous awards and honours, including: Minister of the Year, Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation (2005) for contributions to the progress of aviation in the region; No.1 Minister in India Today (2006); Economic Times Reformer of the Year Award (2007); Honorary Doctorate, Leeds Metropolitan University, for contribution towards economic reforms.
