President of Carnegie Mellon University since 2013. Dr. Suresh is the only current university president to be elected to all three National Academies—the Institute of Medicine (2013), the National Academy of Sciences (2012) and the National Academy of Engineering (2002). He is one of only 16 Americans with membership in all three National Academies. Director of National Science Foundation (2010-2013), a $7-billion independent federal agency in the U.S. charged with advancing all fields of fundamental science and engineering research and related education. Prior to NSF, he was Dean of the School of Engineering and the Vannevar Bush Professor of Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Dr. Suresh has co-authored more than 250 journal articles and registered 21 patents.
