Born in 1946. Master’s degree in Integrated Basic Sciences at the University of Tokyo in 1971, studied physical chemistry at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in Israel in 1972, and studied chemistry at the University of Pisa in Italy in 1973. He received his PhD in radiation physics from the University of Tokyo in 1975. Began working at Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation in 1974. In April, 2007 he was appointed President and CEO of Mitsubishi Chemical Holdings Corporation. He has served as Chairman of Japan Chemical Industry Association, as well as a Private Sector Member of Council for Industrial Competitiveness, Japan since 2014. In March, 2015, he was appointed a Private Sector Member of Intellectual Property Strategy Headquarters, Japan. He is Chairman of Mitsubishi Chemical Holdings Corporation as from April 1, 2015, and Chairman of “the Japan Association of Corporate Executives (Keizai Doyukai)” as from April 27, 2015.
