Global University Leaders Forum (GULF)
In 2006, the World Economic Forum initiated a community of leading university presidents, the Global University Leaders Forum (GULF). In doing so, the Forum pursued three main objectives: The GULF, meeting once a year in conjunction with the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting, is a unique opportunity for its members to network and learn from other university leaders and the Davos community at large. It is an ideal platform to look at the globalization of the university and the current and future role of teaching and research in addressing issues of global importance. The collaboration between GULF members and the World Economic Forum has helped to endorse strategic projects such as the Global Agenda Councils (GACs). The presidents of six universities were chairs of Global Agenda Councils in 2008, and numerous top faculty were involved in most of the Councils. These individuals represent a stable source of strategic advice on topics and scholarship to engage in Forum activities throughout the year. Moreover, GULF members, who are fully integrated into the broader Forum Community, are regular panellists in sessions at the Annual Meeting, Regional Meetings and Industry Activities of the Forum.
