Interview with Ole-Henning Fredriksen, TraceTracker

What it is about your company/project that makes it so special?
Our vision and technology. We address traceability from the global perspective, along the entire supply chain. By this, we help the manufacturers and producers create the basis for trust in their products, both in the B2B domain and with consumers.

What country best facilitates starting a tech company?
Norway and the Nordics have a great track record in fostering groundbreaking and innovative technologies.  However, the U.S. and in particular Silicon Valley has a stronger record in terms of commercializing innovations for the global market. So our strategy has been to build a global organization at the early start of the commercialization process. Technology based on groundbreaking innovations with global potential need to be commercialized in the global arena.

What makes an innovator?
To be an innovator you must have:
• The ability to think outside the current paradigm
• Openness to new ideas
• The courage to envision the future and make it a reality
• Persistence beyond all odds
• Willingness to take risks

How does your company contribute to improving the state of the world?
Our services and solutions address health and wellness imperatives, anti-counterfeiting measures and a wide range of social and environmental initiatives, such as fair trade and biodiversity. In Vietnam our software has been used to monitor the spread of the Avian flu virus and in Uganda it is being used to improve export opportunities for local coffee farmers.  Many of our clients around the world use our solutions to prove and communicate the quality and safety of their products and meet sustainability standards.

In the future we envision an era of consumer intelligence where consumers know the source, production, and quality of their products with the aid of cell phones, websites and in-store kiosks. Therefore we offer solutions that enable companies to provide consumers with information from the every step of the supply chain from the source or the farm to the retail shelf.
