Young Global Leaders Events

Young Global Leaders Summits

Every year the Young Global Leaders can participate in Annual Summits where approximately 200 YGLs from around the globe meet to learn with each other and from each other within a global network of peers. The Summits have taken place in Zermatt, Vancouver, Dalian and Tianjin, and are intense learning experiences with creative workshops and discussions on a range of topics from leadership, innovation and the current challenges in today’s complex world. Learning journeys are also embedded within the programme to give YGLs rich exposure to the country. At the fourth YGL Annual Summit in Tianjin, People’s Republic of China, the community visited local schools to host a Dignity Day and participated in discussions with entrepreneurs to discuss the future of China.

YGLs have often said that spending time with each other is one or the most inspiring and motivating experiences they have during the year – enabling them to go home more knowledgeable, committed and empowered to shape the future. It is during these gatherings when the ideas for new task forces and multistakeholder collaborations arise.

The 2009 Young Global Leaders Summits will take place:
In Jordan: Young Global Leaders Dead Sea Summit
In the People's Republic of China: Young Global Leaders Dalian Summit

World Economic Forum Events

All active Young Global Leaders are invited and encouraged to participate in World Economic Forum regional events. This year, YGL private gatherings will take place at the World Economic Forum’s meetings on 13-16 April in Latin America and on 9-12 June in Africa.

World Economic Forum Annual Meeting

The input of this community of future global leaders is invaluable for the Annual Meeting at Davos-Klosters where the YGLs are often widely integrated into the general programme. During the Fall, all YGLs are asked to submit an application to be considered for participation in the Annual Meeting. Different factors such as participation in YGL events, engagement with the community and stakeholder and regional diversity are considered for Annual Meeting participation.

Local Community Events

Outside of the Forum-initiated and organized events, YGLs often host local, private gatherings to maintain the spirit of the community and strengthen regional connections throughout the year. In the past, local events have taken place in London, Brussels, Hong Kong and Washington DC. The community is encouraged to keep regular communications throughout the year both through Forum organized events and informal gatherings.
