GEA in Rwanda
The main objective of the workshop was to develop a Strategic Implementation Framework and to create a shared vision and understanding of how the GEA can best support the efforts of MINEDUC in the area of ICT in Education and the Education Sector Strategic Plan. Participants included the Minister of Education Hon Daphrose Gahakwa, the Secretary General Mr. Justin Nsengiyumva, the Director of Planning Mr. Claver Yisa, MINEDUC officials, representatives of ICT private sector companies, donor agencies, and Rwandan academic institutions. One of the major outcomes of the workshop was the realization that the GEA intervention is not another ICT in Education initiative to be added to the multiple initiatives running in the country. The contribution of the GEA is more inclusive as it engages donors, private sector companies, and local partners in working together cooperatively for providing technical support and expertise to MINEDUC in business management skills, educational delivery, and entrepreneurship practices. The energies of the GEA will now be concentrated in supporting MINEDUC develop its ICT Policy. This policy will ensure that ICT will be used for advancing the education goals of the Ministry by developing skills that will help Rwandans achieve economic growth and move into a knowledge-based society. |
