Palestinian Education Initiative

Palestinian Education Initiative (PEI) The Palestinian Education Initiative (PEI) made a strong comeback in 2008 under the Global Education Initiative’s Alliance model.

With a new structure under the leadership of Dr. Wasel Ghanem, the patronage of H.E. Mrs. Al Alami (Minister of Education and Higher Education of the Palestinian Authority) and with the support of the Belgian Government, and other partners, the PEI is enhancing education in the region and contributing to social and economic development. By using technology and a multistakeholder partnership approach, the PEI is making sure multiple students and teachers benefit from new skills, information and knowledge transfer.

The PEI evolves around four strategic tracks:

Improving the quality of learning environments at school
Upgrading the competencies of teachers, principals and educational managers
Raising the bottom line in ICT literacy and ICT infrastructure
Upgrading TVET as a high quality pillar of the educational system

Future Outlook
PEI will focus on the development of its strategy document and the design of an action plan (both currently underway). Special attention will be given to mathematics, science, English language, social sciences, and technology.

Awareness is increasing that change has to occur at schools involving active students and teachers as a learning community. To reach a high level of coverage in a relatively short time span, an educational portal will be established in cooperation with existing networks of teachers and students.

Palestinian Education Initiative“With the limited natural resources that the region has, the knowledge economy – “new economy” – becomes a necessity rather then a luxury”. Technology can help learners to become independent, and learn how to learn …Learning to learn is a key objective and a major strategy that the PEI has endorsed.”
Basri Saleh, Assistant Minister for Planning and Development, Palestinian Authority.
