Energy Security Roundtable
Energy Security has been high on the agenda for the Energy Community over the last past years and will continue to be so in the foreseeable future. The Energy Security Roundtable provides the world’s leading energy senior executives and selected Energy Ministers and government strategists with the opportunity to engage with their peers to define and address critical energy security issues on a neutral platform and in informal environment that the Forum offers.
The objective of the Energy Security Roundtable is to create a meaningful dialogue on how energy suppliers, energy producers, government policy makers and consumers can join together to shape a new energy security paradigm that addresses the changing realities of the 21st century and respond to all stakeholders' needs in a cooperative fashion. Regular discussions on Energy Security at the Energy Summit in Davos and biannual Energy Strategy Meetings are complemented by regional perspectives that emerge at Regional Summits. In 2008, the Community met twice: first time in Mexico on invitation of Secretary Kessel, Mexico, and hold discussion on the future of PEMEX with the Mexican Legislators; second time in Istanbul with Minister Guler, Turkey, and discussed the Central Asia’s perspective role as one of the world’s major oil and gas exporters and in 2009 in Rio. Next Energy Securit Roundtable will take place on 15 May 2009 in Jordan during the World Economic Forum on Middle East.

"Balancing supply and demand and offsetting impacts and benefits of different energy |

sources will be a huge challenge in the near future. Despite the economic downturn exacerbated in the past few months, demand for energy will surely increase in the medium and long term. This fact is going to cause production of traditional sources such as oil, natural gas and coal to intensify. At the same time, climate change will dramatically increase the importance of cleaner sources in the world energy scene. That is the complex equation we have to work out, no failure allowed here."
