New Report: Accelerating Smart Grid Investments

Accelerating Smart Grid Investments, a new World Economic Forum report developed with Accenture and industry experts, determines how smart grids can be the backbone infrastructure for tomorrow's energy solutions and green economy. Smart grids have been hailed as a key to sustainably meeting emerging energy needs in a new age where clean energy is at a premium, networks require flexibility to incorporate renewable energy and customers' demands for greater transparency and control over their consumption are growing.

Low Carbon Prosperity Recommendations
A World Economic Forum task force has presented world leaders gathered in New York with proposals to accelerate private sector investment and innovation in the fight against climate change. Eighty business leaders and over 40 environmental and scientific experts outlined a plan for stimulating a "clean revolution" in the private sector within the next few years even as governments continue negotiations on a climate policy framework in the United Nations.

José Sergio Gabrielli de Azevedo,   "Balancing supply and demand and offsetting impacts and benefits of different energy
sources will be a  huge challenge in the near future. Despite the economic downturn exacerbated in the past few months, demand for energy will surely increase in the medium and long term. This fact is going to cause production of traditional sources such as oil, natural gas and coal to intensify. At the same time, climate change will dramatically increase the importance of cleaner sources in the world energy scene. That is the complex equation we have to work out, no failure allowed here."
José Sergio Gabrielli de Azevedo, President and Chief Executive Officer, Petroleo Brasileiro Petrobras, Brazil, 2009 Energy Community Leader
