New Financial Architecture Dinner, New York City, USA, 23 June 2008
Merrill Lynch hosted a dinner of CEOs with participants focusing on the rapid rise and role of new financial players like sovereign wealth funds, hedge funds and Asian central banks. Participants agreed that petrodollar investors might easily quadruple their assets under management within four years, even dwarfing the firepower of today’s big private equity investors. A discussion ensued about the future role of the US and China in global financial markets with agreement on the critical impact of oil and energy prices but divergence on price direction.
Financing for Development Roundtable in Cape Town, South Africa, 4-6 May 2008
The Roundtable co-hosted by African Development Bank (AfDB) discussed the critical issues about financing infrastructure development projects in Africa. The meeting focused on building the new way to leverage government resources and private financing such as concessional resources. It also introduced an effort AfDB has been made to collaborate with like-minded institutions to co-finance projects that widen and deepen its development impact. - Sessions summary: Financing for Development
Systemic Financial Risk: Improving the Resilience of Global Markets, London, United Kingdom, 14 May 2008
This meeting is part of the Systemic Financial Risk dialogue. It is organized in collaboration with the Central Bank of Brazil, which chairs the G20 during 2008, and will be hosted by the Bank of England.
