Absa is one of the largest financial services groups in South Africa offering retail, commercial and investment banking, wealth management and assurance products and services. Barclays has a 55.5% stake in Absa Group, and its other Africa interests include operations in 10 countries. Combined operations on the continent total 15.7 million customers and more than 46,000 employees. Absa is listed on the JSE with a market capitalization of ZAR 110 billion (US$ 12.26 billion) as at 9 April 2013.
