Chartered Accountant. 1972, articled with Arthur Andersen, London (FCA); 1976-89, various positions, including Chief Economist and Assistant Governor in charge of Bank and Insurance Regulations, Bank Negara Malaysia (Central Bank of Malaysia); 1989-92, Senior Manager, Financial Markets and Payments Systems, Financial Sector Development Department, World Bank, Washington DC; 1993-98, Deputy Chief Executive, responsible for Reserves Management and External Departments, Hong Kong Monetary Authority; since 1998-2005, Chairman, Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission. Currently, Chief Adviser, China Banking Regulatory Commission. Former: Co-Chair, Working Party on Transparency and Accountability; Chairman, Task Force on Implementation of Standards; Member of the Nominating Committee, International Accounting Standards Committee (IASC). Author on monetary and financial issues. Recipient of honours.
