Former: Clerk to Justice Thurgood Marshall, US Supreme Court; Legal Counsel and Legislative Director, Senator David L Boren (D-Okla.).Currently, Provost and Senior Vice-President for Academic Affairs, and Frances R and John J Duggan Professor of Law, Political Science, and Public Policy. As Provost, oversees a substantial and vibrant academic community, consisting of the USC Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences, the Keck School of Medicine of USC and 16 other professional schools, as well as student affairs, libraries, information technology services, research, student religious life, and enrollment services. Primary scholarly interests are legislative process, direct democracy, the federal budget process, study of democratic institutions, statutory interpretation, administrative law, and tax policy. Appointed in August 2009 to serve as one of five commissioners on the California Fair Political Practices Commission, the state's independent political oversight agency. 2005, appointed to serve on the nine-member bipartisan Tax Reform Panel.
