1967-83, with the British Civil Service in the Department of Trade and Industry, involved in the formulation of policy and the negotiation of EU Directives. Currently: Director, Complexity Research Programme, LSE; Visiting Professor, Open University; SAB Member, Next Generation Infrastructures Foundation, TU Delft; Policy Adviser to European and US organizations, the European Commission, several UK government departments and five governments. Research on addressing apparently intractable problems at organizational, national and global levels and the creation of enabling environments based on complexity science. Has led, and participated in, projects funded by the EPSRC, ESRC, AHRC, ECOWAS, the European Commission, business and government.
