Professional career focus: the fields of law, international relations, and international migration in different contexts. First served as legal adviser to migrant associations in Madrid, representing migrants in juridical proceedings and providing support to legal and policy reforms affecting migrants. 1996, Confederal Secretary for International Relations, General Workers Union (UGT) of Spain, responsible for issues including European Union enlargement and free movement of workers; 2002-03, Deputy Director, National Trade Union Institute for Development Cooperation (ISCOD), in charge of technical cooperation programmes on international migration; 2004, senior staff member, then Deputy Director, Minister of Labour of Spain's Cabinet; 2009, Spanish Prime Minister's Office, responsible for national participation in the Alliance of Civilizations.
