Previously worked as an environmental lawyer, handling environmental protection cases in US; as a legal advisor to the UN Environment Programme; and as a law professor. Executive vice president of WWF-US, 1989-2001; Director, conservation and science, David and Lucile Packard Foundation, 2001-2005. Co-authored a leading textbook on U.S. environmental law. At Stanford, focused on developing business leadership on sustainability, globally and in China, with particular emphasis on commodities.
