Currently, Deputy Director, Center for International Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN), a centre within the Earth Institute at Columbia University, working at the intersection of the social, natural and information sciences, and specializing in online data and information management, spatial data integration and training, and interdisciplinary research related to human interactions in the environment. Served as a lead author on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Fifth Assessment. Has played leadership roles on other international assessments. Research supported by the US National Science Foundation and other national and international bodies, recently focusing on climate-security links, the emergence of infectious disease and the role of environmental protection in fragile states. Expertise: human-environment interactions, with special emphasis on sustainability metrics and human security.
