Professor, Ecole Polytechnique de Lausanne, directs Laboratory of Photonics and Interface; pioneered research on energy and electron transfer reactions in mesoscopic-materials and application in solar energy conversion systems, optoelectronic devices and lithium ion batteries; discovered new type of solar cell based on dye sensitized nanocrystalline semiconductor oxide particles. Author of over 800 peer-reviewed publications, two books and holder of more than 50 patents. Recipient of awards including: Balzan Prize; Galvani Medal; Faraday Medal; Harvey Prize; Gerischer Award; Dutch Havinga Award and Medal; International Prize, Japanese Society of Coordination Chemistry.
