Originally trained in biology and psychology before becoming a sociologist. Currently Martin White Professor of Sociology and Director, Centre for the Study of Bioscience, Biomedicine, Biotechnology and Sociology, London School of Economics and Political Science. Member of the Editorial Board, Economy and Society. Editor, BioSocieties, an interdisciplinary journal for the social study of the life sciences. Research areas: social theory, the genealogy of the human sciences and the life sciences, and the analysis of biopolitics, with a specific focus on psychiatry and neuroscience. Author and Editor of a number of books on these topics, as well as numerous papers.
