Has served on the faculties of the Carnegie Institution of Washington, Johns Hopkins University and Penn State University, where founded the Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences. Molecular biologist and geneticist working on plant transposon, epigenetics and stress responses. Member, US National Academy of Sciences. Member, External Faculty, Santa Fe Institute. Over 180 publications including: Mendel in the Kitchen: A Scientists View of Genetically Modified Foods. 2006 National Medal of Science laureate.
