MSc in Demography, London School of Economics; PhD in Medical Demography, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Former: Chief of Research and Demography, Pakistan Institute of Development Economics; Population Consultant, World Bank, Islamabad. 1994, joined the Population Council as Deputy Representative, Islamabad; currently, Senior Associate, directs the Islamabad office. Oversees technical assistance and capacity building, social science research, and population and demographic dividend research that informs national policy discussions and developments. Also represents the Council through advisory meetings with government officials in Pakistan. First Pakistani to be elected to the governing council of the International Union for the Scientific Study of Population. Publishes articles on gender and equality, safe abortion and post-abortion care, maternal and child health, and family planning. Tamgha-i-Imtiaz award from the President of Pakistan (2006), in recognition of public service to the development sector in Pakistan. Expertise: cross-national comparative research, advocacy for policy change, analysis of demographic trends and patterns, and evaluations of health service delivery systems.
