Vattenfall is one of Europe's largest generators of electricity and the largest producer of heat. Its main products are electricity, heat and gas. In electricity and heat, it works in all parts of the value chain: generation, distribution and sales. In gas, it is active in sales. It conducts energy trading and lignite mining. The group has approximately 33, 000 employees. In 2012, it operated in Sweden, Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, Finland, France and the UK, with consolidated net sales of around 20 billion euros.
