The Russia’s Regions: Drivers of Growth initiative seeks to explore best practice regarding business environment reforms in Russia’s regions. It will highlight regional differences in ease of doing business, success factors in improving the business climate and their impact on economic growth in those regions.
The project builds on the World Economic Forum’s Scenarios for the Russian Federation, which were released at the Annual Meeting 2013 in Davos-Klosters. The scenarios highlighted Russia’s regions as possible champions of reforms, driving a gradual diversification of the economy and encouraging innovation at all levels.
The World Economic Forum has launched this regional initiative to provide a platform for discussing federal and regional economic growth. The project will explore best practice as well as obstacles to implementing reforms.
The aim is to build on the momentum created by the scenario project and promote strategic discussion among stakeholders about the most appropriate and promising reforms to be undertaken.
The process involves a series of interviews, workshop discussions, and high-level sessions at World Economic Forum events.
Preliminary results will be presented and discussed during the World Economic Forum Moscow Meeting on 20 October 2013, and the final report will be released at the Annual Meeting 2014 in Davos in January.
An informal advisory and expert board will provide guidance on the scope and direction of the project. It is composed of stakeholders represented in the Global Agenda Council on Russia and other relevant Members of the Forum’s Network of Global Agenda Councils.
Through the Forum’s multistakeholder approach, a broad range of participants (including representatives from the public and private sector, the media, civil society and academia) will be involved throughout the process via interviews and workshops, some of which will be held at the Forum’s regional events and at its Annual Meeting in Davos.
