Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, 20 November 2013 – The Abu Dhabi Hub of the Global Shapers Community was officially launched today by the World Economic Forum in a session with the Founding Curator of the Hub, Dr. Mona Hammami, Senior Project Manager at the Crown Prince Court. Also at the launch was Miroslav Dusek, Senior Director and Head of the Middle East and North Africa region at the World Economic Forum.

In the spirit of the Global Shapers Community and the World Economic Forum, the Abu Dhabi Hub is non-political, neutral, not-for-profit and multistakeholder. There are nine Global Shapers in the Abu Dhabi Hub, from both the public and private sectors, and they include nationals as well as expatriates passionate about making a positive contribution to the city of Abu Dhabi.

The new Hub’s projects focus on young people, particularly on aspects related to careers and education. “We would like to promote women entrepreneurship as one of our main themes, and we will work with universities to achieve that” Hammami said.

Also at the launch was Mohamed Al Qhadi, a Global Shaper in the Abu Dhabi Hub who is the Founder and Head of the Renaissance Project in the United Arab Emirates. He said: “In our first year, we seek to support women through “Fikrati”, a competition aimed to foster an entrepreneurial culture among Emirati women in the Emirate.” The project tackles labour market issues by promoting entrepreneurship and innovation.

Hammami added: “We also would like to cover marginalized groups and geographical areas within Abu Dhabi, so we will choose to have our activities elsewhere in the Emirate, including Al Ain and Al Gharbia.”

Dusek said: “Young people represent demographic majorities in most countries of the region and are, therefore, critical to defining the future of their societies as a whole. The Global Shapers Community supports outstanding leaders under 30 years old in working to improve the state of their communities. The Abu Dhabi Hub is about young people being passionate and committed to making a positive contribution for individual citizens through initiatives such as their project “Fikrati”.

During the press conference, the Abu Dhabi Hub invited nominations and applications for joining. Theses can be submitted online at:

The Co-Chairs of the Summit on the Global Agenda 2013 are Nasser Ahmed AlSowaidi, Chairman, Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development (ADDED), United Arab Emirates and Sultan Saeed Nasser Al Mansouri, Minister of Economy of the United Arab Emirates.
