Geneva, Switzerland, 16 May 2011 – Peter Brabeck-Letmathe, Chairman of the Board, Nestlé, Switzerland; Member of the Foundation Board of the World Economic Forum; Jeff Seabright, Vice-President, Environment and Water Resources, The Coca-Cola Company, USA; Usha Rao-Monari, Global Head of Water, Global Infrastructure and Natural Resources Department, International Finance Corporation (IFC), Washington DC; Upmanu Lall, Alan & Carol Silberstein Professor, Department of Earth and Environmental Engineering, Columbia University, USA; Samantha Gross, Director, IHS CERA, USA; and Dominic Waughray, Senior Director, Head of Environmental Initiative, World Economic Forum, will host a breakfast press event to discuss the challenges of the water-food-energy nexus outlined in a new book to be launched at the event on May 20: Water Security: The Water-Food-Energy-Climate Nexus.
Globally, water demand is expected to exceed supply by over 40% by 2030 as populations, economies and consumption rates increase at alarming rates, while the world’s water and energy resources are already near exhaustion. Although a number of businesses are taking action on water, food and energy issues, few are considering how these issues are interrelated. In the book, a number of contributing experts have outlined the challenges and how they impact not only business, but also society and the planet as a whole as a forecast to 2025.
Join the breakfast press event on 20 May to address your questions to the panel of experts and discuss how water scarcity will affect the current view of energy and food futures; how business must work with public and non-governmental sectors to address the interlinked issues of water, food and energy; and why this issue needs to be addressed cooperatively and not in isolation.
