Japanese Government Honours Professor Klaus Schwab with Grand Cordon of Order of the Rising Sun

Tokyo, Japan, 6 November 2013 – His Imperial Majesty the Emperor of Japan today presented Professor Klaus Schwab, Founder and Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum, with the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun. The Grand Cordon is the highest Order bestowed by the Government of Japan on foreign nationals.
The award recognizes Professor Schwab’s achievements in advancing public-private cooperation globally through his leadership of the World Economic Forum.
Since 1973, Professor Schwab has undertaken regular visits to Japan, leading the World Economic Forum’s engagement with the Government of Japan and with the Forum’s Members to ensure that all relevant stakeholders from business, politics, academia and civil society are able to address global issues.
“It is an honour to receive this award and the recognition from the Government of Japan of the World Economic Forum’s work in advancing public-private cooperation globally,” said Professor Schwab.
The Order was first awarded in 1875 and features rays radiating from a rising sun. The attachment is shaped into a paulownia and the design includes a red-and-white-sash.
