Social Entrepreneurs as Architects of Resilient Dynamism

Michèle Mischler, Associate Director Public Affairs, telephone +41 (0)79 571 8225, e-mail: michele.mischler@weforum.org

Davos, Switzerland, 18 January 2013 – Although the current global context is uncertain and fragile, the opportunities for transformation and change have never been greater. In an age of austerity when healthcare, education and other social services are being curtailed to meet budget cuts, social enterprises are well positioned to share innovative, cost-effective solutions to key issues that government and business alone have been unable to address. They see the world’s poor as an aspiring middle class, an integral part of the value chain, and an untapped pool of human capital and talent. The architects of these solutions are social entrepreneurs, who balance social mission with financial sustainability, forging a viable “middle way” between public sector and private markets in both the developed and developing world. Their narratives are stories of resilient dynamism.
