Ahmad Nader Nadery

Ahmad Nader Nadery is Director of the Afghanistan Research and Evaluation Unit, a leading think tank in Afghanistan. He is also Chairman of the Free and Fair Elections Foundation of Afghanistan and Chairman of the Board of the Open Society Foundation-Afghanistan. Prior, Nadery served for eight years as the Commissioner of the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC). In 2001, he represented young political activists at the UN peace talks for Afghanistan, and in 2002 he served as a spokesperson for the National Assembly, as well as worked as Country Director of Global Rights, an international human rights law group. Nadery has written extensively on politics and human rights in Afghanistan and is a Member of the Board of Editors of the International Journal on Transitional Justice. He has won several international awards and was recognized as an “Asian Hero” by Time magazine. Nadery studied law and political sciences at Kabul University and earned his Master's degree in International Affairs from George Washington University.
