Amy Finkelstein is the Ford Professor of Economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Her research is in health policy, and among other things, has used a Medicaid lottery to study the impact of expanding public health insurance to the low income uninsured in the United States using a randomized controlled design. Finkelstein is a Member of the Institute of Medicine and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and was previously a Junior Fellow at the Harvard Society of Fellows. Among her numerous awards are the John Bates Clark Medal, a Sloan Research Fellowship and a Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers. She received her AB summa cum laude from Harvard, an MPhil from Oxford University where she was a Marshall Scholar and a PhD in Economics from MIT.
