Antonio Simoes, Group General Manager, was appointed Head of Retail Banking and Wealth Management, Europe in January 2012. He is responsible for all aspects of HSBC's retail banking and wealth management business in the UK and Europe, including asset management and insurance. Simoes is an Executive Director of HSBC Bank plc, the Group's principal UK and continental European subsidiary. He is also a Director of the French and Turkish subsidiary Boards. He joined HSBC in September 2007 as Group Head of Strategy, based in London. He was promoted to Group Head of Strategy and Planning and Chief of Staff to the Group CEO in October 2009 and relocated to Hong Kong for two years. Before joining HSBC, Simoes was a partner at McKinsey & Company's London office. During his 10 years at McKinsey, he worked in financial services across several geographies. He also worked at Goldman Sachs, based in London, serving financial institutions in Investment Banking. Simoes holds an MBA with honours from Columbia.
