danah boyd is a Senior Researcher at Microsoft Research, a Research Assistant Professor at New York University, a Fellow at Harvard's Berkman Center for Internet and Society, and an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of New South Wales. Her research examines everyday practices involving social media with specific attention to youth practices. She recently co-authored Hanging Out, Messing Around, and Geeking Out: Kids Living and Learning with New Media and her new book, It's Complicated: The Social Lives of Networked Teens, is due out in 2013. She is a Research Fellow for the Born This Way Foundation, an initiative started by Lady Gaga and her mother to empower youth to create a kinder, braver world. She is also on the Electronic Privacy Information Center's board of advisers. boyd has received numerous recognitions, including the CITASA Award for Public Sociology and TR35 from the Technology Review. She is widely cited in both scholarly and journalistic contexts. She received her PhD in Information from the University of California, Berkeley.
