Danny Cohen was appointed in 2010 as the youngest ever Controller of BBC One, the flagship BBC television channel where he is responsible for overseeing a £1 billion budget and editorially responsible for output including drama, entertainment, comedy, current affairs and documentary. He also oversees the channel's online output. The programmes he has commissioned include the Inbetweeners, Skins, Supernanny, Call the Midwife, Our War, Blood Sweat and Takeaways, and Being Human. Many of the programmes have won BAFTAs, Royal Television Society Awards and Rose D'Ors. In addition, many of the programmes have been adapted for other markets throughout the world. From 2007 to 2010, Cohen was Controller of BBC Three, the BBC's youth television network, which under his leadership won Digital Channel of the Year in two out of three years. He began his career in documentary production and went on to become Head of Documentaries for Channel 4, before taking on the more recent roles.
