In January 2009, David Chiu was elected President of San Francisco's Board of Supervisors, the first Asian American to head the legislative body of the City and County of San Francisco. Representing San Francisco's north-east neighbourhoods, he has passed numerous pieces of legislation concerning budget reform, public transit, the environment, small businesses, housing and public safety. Previously, Chiu was a Founder and Chief Operating Officer of Grassroots Enterprise, an online communications technology company. Prior to Grassroots, he worked as a criminal prosecutor at the San Francisco District Attorney's Office, a civil rights attorney at the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights and as Democratic Counsel to the US Senate Constitution Subcommittee. Chiu received his Bachelor's degree, Master's degree in Public Policy and Law degree from Harvard University.
