Member of Parliament
Dionysia-Theodora Avgerinopoulou is a Member of the Parliament of Greece where she is President of the Environment Committee and the Watercourses Sub-Committee. Avgerinopoulou is a trained attorney, specializing in environmental, international and European law. She has worked at the Legal Service of the European Commission, the Permanent Mission of the European Union to the United Nations, and the Yale Center for Environmental Law and Policy at Yale Law School. Avgerinopoulou is Co-Founder and President of the European Institute of Law, Science & Technology. She is the recipient of the Green Star Award by UNEP/OCHA/Green Cross International, a US Special Congressional Recognition, the Global Citizenship Award for Leadership in Assisting Humanity, and the Goddess Artemis Award by the Euro-American Women's Council. In 2013 she was nominated by the Greek Government for the position of Deputy Executive Director of UNEP. Avgerinopoulou holds an LLB from the National University of Athens, an LLM in International Legal Studies from Georgetown University Law Center and a JSD (PhD in Law) from Columbia Law School.
