Fang Xinghai is Director-General of the Shanghai Metropolitan Government's Office of Financial Services. Previously, he served as Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Shanghai Stock Exchange, the main stock exchange in China. He is one of the new generation of professionals who are working to transform China’s economy into a modern market-oriented system. He started his career at the World Bank through the Young Professionals programme, subsequently returning home to join the China Construction Bank and help establish the Cinda Asset Management Company. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from Qinghua University and a PhD in Economics from Stanford University. He was also selected as a Yale World Fellow.
