Fatmir Besimi believes that peace, stability and knowledge are the basis for sustainable development and prosperity. Since February 2013, Besimi has been Deputy Prime Minister for European Affairs in the Government of the Republic of Macedonia. He served as Minister of Defence from July 2011 until this appointment, and twice as Minister of Economy (2004-2006; 2008-2011). He was the Economist of the World Bank office in Kosovo and Chief Executive Officer of the public company for airports in Macedonia. He also served as Vice-Governor of the National Bank of the Republic of Macedonia (2002-2004). Besimi has a PhD in Economics from Staffordshire University in the United Kingdom. He teaches at South-East European University in Macedonia and is the author of Monetary and Exchange Rate Policy in Macedonia: Accession to the EU, and several articles and working papers. As an official guest, Besimi has lectured at Harvard University, Georgetown University and other international universities.
