Fernando Madeira is the CEO of Terra Latin America, a leading Internet portal and Internet service provider in 18 countries. Prior to his appointment in 2002, he was General Manager at Terra Brazil. His goal is to consolidate Terra’s leadership in the region, where the company already has 1.7 million broadband subscribers. Prior to joining the company, Madeira worked in Silicon Valley where he developed an office automation platform for UNIX operating systems. In 1989, together with four other co-founders, he developed a platform for Internet access during the time when it was at its early stages of development. In 1999, Spain’s Telefónica Group acquired their online work, the foundation for what is now known as Terra Networks. In 2004, he was elected Entrepreneur of the Year of Technology by the Brazilian magazine Isto É Dinheiro. Madeira obtained his undergraduate degree at Pontifícia Universidade Católica and specialized in Business Administration at INSEAD.
