Francis Joseph Escudero is a Senator of the Republic of the Philippines. He has been in public service for over 15 years, serving as a Congressman from 1998 to 2007. Escudero has held numerous committee chairmanships in the Philippine Senate, including the committees on Justice and Human Rights, Environment and Natural Resources, Ways and Means and National Defense. Initiatives he passed into law concern education, tax, justice and human rights. Prior to joining the government, Escudero was a lawyer and a professor of law. He has earned several distinctions, including a TOYM (Ten Outstanding Young Men of the Philippines) and was the only Filipino named in Asia News Network's Asia's Idols in 2007. Escudero holds a Master's degree in International and Comparative Law from Georgetown University and a degree in law from the University of the Philippines.
