H.R.H Princess Mathilde of Belgium is a former speech therapist and holds an MA in Psychology. She shows great concern for vulnerable persons, particularly children. The Princess Mathilde Fund identifies projects likely to improve the situation of vulnerable persons and awards an annual prize. Educational issues and the situation of women are other key areas of her interest. Princess Mathilde regularly accompanies H.R.H. Prince Philippe on economic missions abroad and leads humanitarian missions. In 2005, she accepted the mandate of United Nations Envoy for the International Year on Microcredit. She was a UNICEF and UNAIDS Special Representative for their campaign on orphans and children made vulnerable by HIV/AIDS. In 2009 she became the Honorary President of UNICEF Belgium. She became an honorary member of the Schwab Foundation Board on social entrepreneurship in 2010 and a Special Representative of WHO Europe for immunization. She is the spouse of HRH. Prince Philippe, Duke of Brabant, the eldest son of King Albert of the Belgians, and mother of four children.
