Fountain for Youth
Ian Thorpe is Australia's most successful Olympian. His achievements as a swimmer, his professionalism towards his work, the way he has managed his success, and his humility and commitment in helping others has earned Thorpe respect and admiration internationally. Throughout his swimming career, Thorpe gave all his prize monies to various charities. Renowned for his generosity and maturity, from an early age Thorpe has had an understanding of social issues and the injustices suffered by others. He established Ian Thorpe's Fountain for Youth in 2000, in the belief that all children should be treated equally. Fountain for Youth has enabled Thorpe to raise his voice on behalf of children, especially Australian Aboriginal children and their families, who are not afforded the same rights as their fellow countrymen. Thorpe works alongside Aboriginal people providing programmes that can improve health and education outcomes for the children and their communities. Thorpe has made his work a personal and lifelong commitment, one he does not take lightly.
